THE STUDIES
Exploring your views
We've all read in the papers about the next new AI which is more accurate / quicker / cheaper than a scan or test, but what do you think about using them? Many studies only address the technical accuracy and not the impact on the patients and clinical staff.

This programme of research is different. I want to hear what real people think about using AI in the real world. What would be good about it? What benefits do you see to using it? What are the drawbacks? What concerns you about using AI?

Building the tool
Work started on developing the AI tool in 2018. We started by focussing on low back pain, something which will affect 1 in 3 people at some point in their lives. We recruited specialists in the field of back pain, rheumatology, general practice and neurosurgery to explore the key factors that need to be included in assessing back pain. More information can be found here.
We will be continuing this work to update and refine the tool we built so that it is ready for testing in clinical practice. If you would like to try it out and give us some feedback, please click here |
Real world testing
Having found out what would help people to use AI, and building a tool around this, we need to try it out in the real world! Experts will use the tool to assess patients, and log whether they agree or disagree with the tool. Patients will continue to receive the care they would have anyway, but will have the added assessment of the AI tool.
INTERVIEWSAre you a healthcare professional who assesses back pain? Do you work in primary care or a first contact practitioner role? We want to hear from you!

TOOL BUILDINGAre you an expert in back pain? Whatever specialism you have, you can help!
We will be running online and face to face activities - expenses paid for participation. |
USING AI IN PRACTICEWe will be testing AI in clinics around Sussex - find out if your clinic will be included.
